Derek has held the position as the Head of Sport for Sport Leisure and Recreation, Education Sport and Culture, and more recently Economic Development Tourism Sport and Culture, since 1995. He trained as a teacher and taught PE at Grainville School from 1982 until 1995. After being educated in Jersey, Derek gained his teaching qualification at Loughborough College. Following a period of 3 years teaching at De La Salle College he went to Carnegie and Leeds University and then Washington State University where he gained a master’s degree in PE and Sport Management. Derek has always had an interest in sport and has represented Jersey in many different areas when younger.
