Community

Deryn Evans grew up in Jersey and studied medicine in London. She spent time in Jersey, Tunbridge Wells and New Zealand working as a junior doctor and completed her GP training in Cambridgeshire. She moved back to Jersey with her husband and 3 children in 2014. Since being back in Jersey, Deryn has taken on the role of Forensic Medical Examiner (FME) for the States of Jersey Police and is now the Lead FME. Deryn has been involved in the development of the Sexual Assault Referral Centre, Dewberry House, offering medical and forensic care to those who have experienced sexual trauma. She is now the Clinical Director of this service and has undertaken additional training to enable her to examine children who may have experienced sexual abuse.

Alongside her forensic role, Deryn has continued to work in General Practice and in 2019 took on a role as a GP for vulnerable and homeless adults. This role involves offering primary care services to adults deemed too challenging to be seen in mainstream General Practice and to those who are homeless or living in Shelter Trust accommodation.

Deryn also works as a GP Appraiser, appraising doctors in Jersey and Gibraltar. She is a Medical Referee, a role which requires her to authorise cremations. For the past 5 years, Deryn has been a Governor at Victoria College and sits on the Safeguarding committee.
