Julia moved to Jersey in 1992. She is an Honorary Fellow of the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust for whom she worked for 22 years as Head of the International Training Centre, Director of Conservation Science and finally Chief Conservation Officer before changing to her present position.
Julia has more than 30 years experience in academic research and teaching in conservation science. She is currently Professor of Biodiversity and Human Development at Manchester Metropolitan University and a Senior Research Associate with the Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR). She also holds the position of Visiting Professor at Imperial College London and at the University of Malaga, Spain.
Julia’s research naturally embraces a broad set of disciplines such as biology, economics, anthropology, and development. The fundamental underpinning of her research and career is to advance scientific knowledge but also use it for practical purposes. Julia teaches in a number of courses in academic institutions in the UK and other countries.
