Nick qualified as an Advocate with Ogier, becoming a partner in 1996. He was appointed Jersey Managing Partner in 2007 and Group Chief Executive and Managing Partner from 2009 to 2016.

Nick is the Co Founder and Chair of Every Child Our Future, an Education charity which supports Jersey children, mainly from disadvantaged backgrounds, in the areas of literacy and numeracy. He served as Chair of Governors of Jersey College for Girls and was a Co Founder of the Channel Islands Student Business Challenge, an entrepreneurship challenge for secondary school students which is a collaboration between business and schools.

Nick is a Director of Allan & Gill Gray Philanthropy, a family philanthropic group headquartered in Jersey which was established in 2017. He joined as a consultant on its inception and was part of the team responsible for building the governance and infrastructure required to support its global grant-giving programmes, including grant-giving in Jersey. This encompassed establishing a UK registered charity, which he chairs, which operates a substantial grant-giving programme.

Nick chairs the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Endowment in South Africa, which makes grants in Early Childhood Development, Education, Entrepreneurship and Job Creation and is also a Trustee of the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation which runs a scholarship and fellowship programme aimed at developing future entrepreneurs in South Africa.
