Which giving approach is right for you?
Jersey Community Foundation offers a range of ways to give
Giving options can be tailored to your interests, level of involvement and long-term ambitions.
Donor-Advised Funds
Your own charitable fund, with complete flexibility.
A Donor-Advised Fund gives you the opportunity to establish your own named charitable fund through Jersey Community Foundation.
You can recommend which organisations receive funding, spread your giving over many years and remain as involved in the grant-making process as you wish.
We provide the due diligence, governance and administration, allowing you to focus on the impact you want your philanthropy to achieve.
Ideal for: Individuals, families or businesses looking for a personalised and flexible approach to charitable giving.
Themed Funds
Support Jersey's greatest needs.
If you would prefer us to direct your donation, you can contribute to one of our established themed funds.
Funding is pooled with other donors and allocated through our independent grant panels to organisations addressing priority issues across Jersey, including poverty, mental health, preventing ill health, tackling inequality, caring for an aging population and social mobility.
This is one of the simplest and most effective ways to make a meaningful difference.
Ideal for: Donors who want a straightforward and impactful way to support local communities.
Hybrid Giving
The simplicity of pooled giving with the opportunity to help choose where funding goes.
Some donors want expert guidance without the responsibility of managing their own fund.
With our Hybrid Giving approach, your donation is made into one of Jersey Community Foundation's themed funds, such as the Jersey Community Fund or Arts & Heritage Fund.
We then share a carefully selected shortlist of applications that align with your interests, allowing you to recommend which projects you would like your donation to support.
This combines the efficiency of pooled funding with the enjoyment of being directly involved in choosing local projects.
Ideal for: Donors who would like to play an active role in their giving without establishing a dedicated Donor-Advised Fund.
Endowed Giving
Create a lasting legacy for Jersey.
An endowed fund is designed to provide long-term support for future generations. Rather than spending the original capital immediately, the fund is invested, allowing income to be distributed over many years while preserving (or growing) the capital.
Donors can establish named endowment funds, support existing endowments or combine an endowment with immediate grant-making.
Many donors choose a blended approach, for example, using part of their donation to support charities today while investing the remainder as an endowment that will continue to benefit Jersey's communities for decades to come.
Why consider an endowment?
-
Create a permanent charitable legacy.
-
Support future generations as well as today's communities.
-
Build a fund that can continue giving year after year.
-
Combine immediate impact with long-term sustainability.
Illustrative example
A £50,000 endowment achieving an average annual return of 4% could generate more than £100,000 in charitable distributions over the long term while continuing to support Jersey's communities well into the future, depending on investment performance and spending policy.
Ideal for: Donors who want to create a lasting legacy and support Jersey for generations to come.
