The Bailiff has launched an appeal to enable islanders and organisations who may wish to donate money to aid those badly affected by Storm Ciaran.
The appeal has been established to support individuals and families who have been displaced and have suffered hardship as a result and who need short term aid to help them through difficulty.
The fund will be administered by the Jersey Community Foundation and a board of six members including The Bailiff, Justice and Home Affairs Minister, Deputy Dr Helen Miles and Connétable of St Clement, Connétable Marcus Troy.
Details for donations are provided at the bottom this release.
The appeal is not intended to cover insured or usually insured risks.
The Bailiff, Sir Timothy Le Cocq, said:
‘Storm Ciaran has left many having to move out of their homes and in need of short-term help to see them over a difficult and traumatic time.
The generosity and community spirit of islanders comes to the fore in times like this.
Sometimes people want to help but just don’t know how they can do so we have set up a fund to allow people to contribute to help fellow islanders in real need.
It will be targeted initially at those displaced and in need of immediate help as a result of Storm Ciaran. It is not intended to affect any of the marvellous work that is being done voluntarily
throughout the island, nor to any specific parish initiatives. It is intended that those operating the fund will work closely with the parishes.
I would also like to express my gratitude to both the Deputy Miles and the Connétable of St Clement for agreeing to sit on this appeal.’
Anna Terry, CEO of Jersey Community Foundation expressed her commitment to managing the new fund on behalf of the Bailiff, saying-
During these trying times when some families have tragically lost their homes and belongings, we are determined to provide them with tangible support from the fund to rebuild their lives. We are grateful for any donations that individuals and organisations can contribute, as each contribution will make a meaningful difference for Islanders who have been most severely affected. Details of how to apply to the fund will be available shortly"
