Social Mobility Fund
The Social Mobility Fund is dedicated to breaking down barriers to opportunity in Jersey, ensuring that where someone starts in life doesn’t limit where they can go. Social mobility is about giving everyone a fair chance to succeed through access to education, enriching experiences, strong networks, and meaningful opportunities.
We fund practical projects that help people improve their life chances, particularly those facing disadvantage. These might include extra-curricular learning, cultural or sporting activities, skills development, mentoring, or research into what works.
Application deadline: Grant Round Closing Dates
What is Social Mobility?
Social mobility is the ability to move up (or down) the social and economic ladder. It reflects how much someone’s background, including family income, education, or neighbourhood, shapes their future opportunities.
Mobility can be:
-
Educational (achieving more than your parents or peers)
-
Occupational (accessing secure, skilled, or better-paid jobs)
-
Income-based (gaining financial security or stability)
-
Social (benefiting from networks, mentors, or life experiences)
When social mobility is high, talent and hard work matter more than early-life circumstances. Greater mobility leads to stronger communities, a more skilled workforce, and fairer, more resilient societies.
